My child is a daredevil!
Last night we were invited to the opening of the Ice Galaxy at Canal Walk.
I was a bit skeptical about the whole thing, it was on a week night, smack bang in the middle of supper, bath and bedtime. Also, I wasn’t sure there would be activities that would be suitable for a 2-year-old.
Well, that just goes to show how much I underestimate my kid. Also it was another lesson in how much I should listen to my husband.
I was convinced because it was a whole icy winter wonderland it would be cold inside. It’s not. I was overdressed. The Munchkin and his dad were happy to run around in t-shirts and jeans. Wellies over flip-flops though…
There are 3 slides: the baby one with a children’s snow area, the big kids one and the VERY big one that’s 90m tall.
The Munchkin was meant to play in the snow area and go on the baby slide which he did for a few goes before he decided he wanted to move onto bigger things.
My heart stood in my chest as I watched him standing at the top of that slide. But his face as he came down was pure unadulterated joy!

After two goes the staff members felt he was a bit too small for it but my son is a daredevil. Either they were going to let him go down or he was going down by his damn self.
I think he was the smallest kid standing in that line last night.
I went on the big big one all in the name of charity. But my colleague, Aayesha was the one who won it for Parent24! Canal Walk is donating R10 000 to St. Anne’s Home for Abused Women and Children. How amazing is that?!
The slide is SO FAST! I wasn’t sure if they crew at the end would manage to catch me and I’d go flying right through Canal Walk. Luckily they did and I didn’t die!
We had a great time last night. The Munchkin loves sliding so this was him in his element, he was also destroying other kids snow castles like a tiny Godzilla which wasn’t fun for me but the staff are so friendly that one of them built snow castles for him to destroy.
The Ice Galaxy is on at Canal Walk from 4 December to 10 January 2016.
