Little Lamb cloth nappy review

When we made the change over to cloth nappies we didn’t jump in with both feet. We’re still using disposables at night and when we go out for the day. We’ve been getting braver and packing cloth in his nappy bag when we go out in the day so that just leaves the nights.

I was perfectly happy using disposables at night till The Munchkin started needing midnight nappy changes or he’d wet himself and the bed. Even worse, he started wetting himself and the bed and his nappy wasn’t even full. The nappies were just crap. We tried them all, Pampers, Huggies even the new Clicks nappies (which are still our disposable of choice by the way).

We needed a better solution because we couldn’t stand the constant PJ and sheet washing! So I turned to the helpful mamas on the South African Cloth Nappy Users Facebook Group and the two solutions that most appealed to me were the Goodnight Heavy Wetters (which did not work for us at all!) and the Little Lamb bamboo fitted nappy and bombproof wrap.

After the GNHW was such a fail for us I bought a Little Lamb nappy combo deal from Nappy Ever After.

About the Little Lamb nappy

Little Lamb Bamboo nappy

The Little Lamb nappy is a fitted nappy which means that the whole thing is absorbent so you’ll need a cover to go with it.  It’s also a sized nappy meaning that it comes in different sizes rather than being a One Size Fits Most.

  • The size 1 nappy fits babies from around 3kgs – 9kgs which is generally the age range newborn to nine months.
  • The size 2 fits babies from around 9kgs -17kgs which should fit babies from about seven months to potty training.
  • The size 3 fits babies from 16kgs.

Little Lamb nappies come in 3 different types of material too so that you can choose the one that will be most useful to your needs.

  • Bamboo – this is the thirstiest material and absorbs the most but takes the longest to dry
  • Cotton and Organic cotton – not as absorbent as the bamboo but it dries much quicker.
  • Microfiber – the least absorbent so it’s not ideal for night time use but it dries the quickest.

We went for the bamboo option because we needed a night time solution for an (at the time) heavy wetter.

The Wrap

The cover is made of a waterproof yet breathable material which means that your baby won’t get too hot while wearing it. It’s very stretchy and covers quite well. The back and thighs are elasticated which means it keeps all the wetness and poop from spilling out. They come in a range of solid colours and lovely prints.

My Thoughts

Whenever we use the Little Lamb nappy at night we have a completely dry night. Every. Time. The nappy is incredibly soft and the fleece liner that comes with it not only adds an added softness but also wicks away the wetness.

My one gripe is that in winter it takes super long to dry (it took a few days for it to be properly dry) so you would need a few more especially in the winter months. In the summer time it dries during the day no problem.

The wrap also dries ridiculously fast. You could wash it the morning and have it dry in a couple of hours. Which means you’ll need less wraps than nappies which Thank God, because they’re R200 a pop. It’s not as expensive as some WAHM nappies available (on that note Sassybumz makes the most beautiful nappies but so way out of my budget!)

I love that both the nappy and wrap have Velcro tabs which makes it really easy to put on a wriggly toddler, because I really didn’t want to be struggling with snaps in the night.

When we bought the nappy it needed extra boosting with a hemp insert because he was still a heavy wetter at night but that’s changed as he’s getting older so as a medium wetter now he just needs the  nappy and the wrap .

We wash every 2nd or 3rd day so we’re going to be buying 2 more nappies and a wrap to see us through the nights.

Little Lamb nappies are sold in South Africa by Nappy Ever After, Fluff and Squish or at their physical store at 27 Boxes in Melville.

Bamboo Nappy – R200

Bombproof Wrap – R200

Combo – R380

Nappy Ever After also has an Ultimate Night Time Kit* so be sure to check that out.

*A previous version of this blog said it was Nightmare Kit. It’s 100% NOT @ Nightmare Kit, in fact it’s quite possibly the opposite.

Looooove looooove looove the LL bamboo nappies eith the wrap Zayaan, I don’t think anything else can replace it!! Although I do have to add some more layers of bamboo and hemp to last through the night. I soooo want more, only have 2 nappies and 2 wraps, but have 2 kids in cloth….sometimes have to use my Weegro over the LL nappy, when in a fix.

We used to have to boost as well but thankfully he’s become a light to medium wetter at night so out lasts fine without one. He does have a big morning pee though so I’m thinking his bladder control is getting better when asleep.

Great review! Love the prints that the wraps come in, I think I should put them on my to-try list before my son potty learns.
