Today was one of those rare good days. You know that day where everything just goes right and you realise just how lucky you are because despite the hardships your life is filled with love and that is just priceless. I just have one more day of work left then I’m officially on summer holiday but it feels like it’s already started.
When Robi resigned, I wasn’t sure what it would be like at work anymore. She is my closest and best friend. My heart person. If we could get married we would. I’m not good at making friends but I am so so lucky to be surrounded by great people at work.
It was a great surprise that I found two more like-minded geeky friends at work which is fantastic! We decided to do a Geeky Secret Santa but Sergio cheated by getting me a gift too when he was only meant to get one for Caryn.
New work mug from Sergio. Apparently it's Christmas up in here. #StarWars
Then Caryn got me this amazing canvas print that I think we might hang in our lounge.
😍 What a geeky Christmas!
It’s just a great feeling to have great people in your life. And speaking of which – I got to hang out with Robi for an hour or so today while she got her first tattoo. She was such a trooper and got a rather big piece done to honour her late father. She winced a bit here and there but she was so brave. I am not. I love tattoos, they are so beautiful – but on other people.
@robi27 getting her first tattoo. So fascinating!
Go check out her Instagram to see what the finished piece looks like. It is SO beautiful! Just like her.
Because I had a massive present to ferry home my brother came to get me and The Munchkin’s face just lit up when his uncle walked through the door as a surprise. I love how much he loves him.
We were just milling about the house when The Husband asked if we wanted to go swim at a friend’s place in Camps Bay – and I thought, why not? It was still relatively early, The Munchkin was just going to want to watch TV and it’s holiday time. So I gathered our swim things and 30 minutes later we were having a refreshing afternoon swim.
This was a bit of a big deal for me because we don’t do spontaneous things when it’s close to bedtime. But the summer holiday bug had bitten me and we threw caution to the wind… And I’m so happy we did because it was such a fun time.
After the sun started getting a bit low and the grey clouds decided to make an appearance I took The Munchkin to have a bath while the husband toasted a sandwich that we had brought along for him. I thought he would be hungry after the swim but turns out not so much and we had a bit of a power struggle about eating vs watching Mickey Mouse.
We decided to head home before it got out of hand and before we were too far out of bed time range. We timed it rather well because just as we were heading towards Kloof Nek the sun was setting and just look how much this city is showing off in summer.
Beautiful sunset over Camps Bay. Love this city in the summer.
So all in all, it was a great day: I got gifts from new friends and realised how lucky I am to have made new friends; I got to hang out with my best person while she did a rather significant thing; I went on a spontaneous outing with my two boys; we swam and it felt like the first day of summer holidays and we caught a beautiful sunset.
I’m on vacation from Friday so I’ll be taking a break on the blog till next year.
So Merry Christmas to those who are celebrating and have a safe and happy New Year. I’ll chat to y’all next year!
