There will often be weekends when it’s about 2pm and I realise that The Munchkin has done nothing but watch TV all day. Oops. I only feel slightly guilty because in that time I managed to get a ton of stuff done.
But I do feel guilty nonetheless. That’s when the TV goes to “sleep” and we find some other things to occupy our time till it’s time for bed.
Cars and Blocks
Our first port of call is always his treasure trove of cars. His blocks and cars often go hand-in-hand because lately he’s taken to building garages and bridges for his cars. Also, very tall towers and “rockets”.

Rushdi's 1st Instagram. He built the trains, took the photo and chose the filter 😂 #RushdiLife I obviously wrote the words. Obviously.
This morning Rushdi built a bridge and I was hella impressed. I know it seems small but I think it's such a big concept for a 2-year-old to understand and put into action. #RushdiLife

Reading
This is a staple before bed and I try to get him to get to read with me during the day but it’s not often a go-to. We have a whole set of Julia Donaldson books which he loves but I think I should extend his library a bit more. Which is why I’m so happy that the Kids Book Club has bolstered it a bit. We have so many educational books that he’s learned new concepts from and that have helped him with big transitions like starting school.
You can check the Kids Book Club out here.
We've been trying out the #KidsBookClub and I share my thoughts on the blog. Link in my bio! #RushdiLife
We're both sick so we're celebrating #StarWarsReadsDay in bed. #StarWars #R2D2
This month's Kids Book Club hamper could not come at a better time! Hoping this might help with The Munchkin's not wanting to go to school in the mornings. #kidsbookclub
Messy Play
This is fun for him and stressful for me so we don’t do it often even though we probably should for his fine motor skills development. Painting, drawing and water pouring have been a hit so far. I have not tried bath crayons because honestly I don’t trust him with them.
How is drawing messy play I hear you ask? Give a 2-year-old a crayon then you will see how messy it can get.
We did buy kinetic sand but we’re keeping it for a while till he’s not as much of a terror with messy things.

The Park
This one is an easy go to because aside from fine tuning his gross motor skills, he has tons of fun and tires himself out. He loves climbing and my heart just jumps out of my chest every time he goes all the way to the top.

This one I pull out as an absolute last resort when I am exhausted but we’ve also over exhausted our TV quota for the day. He loves it, it keeps him occupied for at least 10 – 15 minutes and I love how happy it makes him. It’s also hilarious.

Things I want to try:
I want to try baking with him. I need to find simple recipes that he can’t destroy too much and make too much mess with. He’s helped me with making flapjacks before and has quite enjoyed that.
Aaaand, that’s it. I’m stumped for ideas guys. Let me know if there’s anything that I should try with him.

Oh gosh we also struggle with the TV. Its so easy to plop him on the couch and put on Blaze and the monster machines or whatever annoying show he is currently obsessed with when I need to get stuff done, or take a bath, or just be for a minute. And I use to say my kid will only start watching TV when he is about 6. Poor naïve pre-pregnancy me.
