That time we were sick on Eid

Eid al-Adha is the 2nd of the two Eids Muslims celebrate. It means the Festival of Sacrifice and it honours the willingness of Nabi Ebrahim to sacrifice his son, as an act of submission to Allah’s command. Allah then intervened, sending his angel Jibra’il  to inform him that his sacrifice had already been accepted and replaced his son with a sheep.

On Eid al-Adha Muslims sacrifice sheep (and other animals) to honour this day. The meat from the sacrificed animal is divided into three parts. The family retains one third of the share; another third is given to relatives, friends and neighbors; and the remaining third is given to the poor and needy.

The story of Nabi Ebrahim and his family ties in very closely with the rituals of Hajj (the pilgrimage Muslims go to Makkah for). It’s a long and very interesting read and you can read up on it here.

A sickly kind of Eid

I should’ve known on Saturday morning when I woke up feeling like death warmed over that this Eid would not be the usual grand affair.

Then on Sunday night, The Munchkin came down with a high fever added to the fact that he had a runny nose and cough. So this year Eid was spent mostly in bed. Needless to say it was a fun night.

The Husband went off to mosque and then to greet his mom and aunt. I managed to get him to eat something and we just lay in bed, with him watching stuff on my phone.

For a kid who was sick and feverish he sure didn’t want to sleep. I got up at 12pm to make custard to go with the malva pudding and to iron clothes because we were going to have lunch at my mom’s house. He eventually fell asleep which made us late for lunch (that’s two Eid’s in a row by the way). But we made it eventually.

The Munchkin still refused to eat anything but was too eager for when the dessert was brought out.

My one wish this Eid was to get a family photo because honestly, it’s the one thing we really suck at. So despite 2 out of the 3 of us being sick we managed to snap this one before heading home to bed again.

Eid 2016

We may not look it, but 2 out of the 3 of us are not feeling great.

We were meant to go to The Husband’s mom for an early supper but The Munchkin’s fever was too much and my flu was making me feel very lethargic.

So we had a supper of scavenged Eid bread from my mom’s house while catching up on The Michalaks latest vlog.

So on Tuesday it was off to the doctor for us both. As suspected I had the flu and there was nothing she could really give me expcept booking me off work so that I could rest and recover. The munchkin has an ear infection in both ears – not that he ever said his ears were sore. So he’s on an antibiotic again.

On the one hand I’m glad I can be home with him to take care of him. On the other, it’s not like I can get much rest or sleeping done and my son is watching too much TV this week but I don’t have the energy to care.
