My favourite Netflix shows for my kids

Yes, you read that title correctly. MY favourite shows for my kids to watch on Netflix because if I have to be subjected to children’s TV, I’ll be damned if it’s going to be crap like Peppa Pig, Power Rangers or Teen Titans Go!*

So here are my favourite things to watch with my kids because they are:

1. Cute,
2. Educational,
3. And above all, not annoying.

Puffin Rock

This Netflix Original is just the flipping cutest and it makes my heart happy. It’s so sweet, peaceful and calming that whenever The Munchkin is post tantrum and needs to calm the heck down, we watch it. Sometimes he says it’s for babies but he does rather enjoy it and so does The Potato.

Set on a fictional island off the Irish coast, the series follows a young puffin named Oona and her little brother Baba as they explore their world. It’s narrated by the wonderful Chris O’Dowd (of IT Crowd fame).

Also, this song is my favourite. I often listen to it after the kids have gone to bed.

Justin Time

Justin Time is about a little boy obviously called Justin and his friend, Squidgy who go on make believe adventures with their friend, Olive. Justin and co. rocket into space, explore new lands with the Vikings, and chase Cleopatra’s cat through the Pyramids.

Earth to Luna

This is a recent discovery for us (like 2 days ago) but it’s already one of my favourites. Luna is completely, undeniably, and passionately into just one thing… SCIENCE!!

Join Luna, her little brother Jupiter, and pet ferret Clyde as they search for answers and try to find out just what’s happening here!

Today The Potato learned that butterflies taste with their feet, all about refraction and how yeast works.

Wild Kratts

The brothers Kratts travel to a different corner of the world to meet amazing new animals and find thrilling adventures along the way!

The Munchkin and I love this one because it teaches The Munckin in detail about different kinds of animals and it ties in great with whatever animal we’re doing at school that week.

StoryBots Super Songs

So StoryBots is already on The Munchkin’s favourite shows list, but I love putting Super Songs on because while The Munchkin is learning about professions, space or the human body The Potato is having a dance party.

The whole series is also available on YouTube.

Bo on the Go

Okay, so Bo on the Go is not my faaaaavourite on this list BUT it gets The Munchkin up and moving when he’s usually just sitting down. Bo makes your kid up and exercise by either dancing, running on the spot, jumping up and down or moving their arms around.  So Bo can stay.

I hope you’ve found something new on this list for your kids to watch and please even if your kids don’t like it watch an episode of Puffin Rock on your own if you have to. It’ll do your soul some good.

*Look here, if your kids are going to be watching a superhero show Young Justice or Justice League Action are far better choices.

Pocoyo is also very sweet. Narrated by Stephen Fry!
I also love Shaun the Sheep and Timmy Time 🙂

Yes! He loves Pocoyo too and I’ve come to appreciate it as well. We did one episode of Timmy Time the other day but he got a bit bored. He used to love Shaun the Sheep when he was younger.

Thank you, Zayaan! I found this post through your more recent one on Peppa Pig. I’ve agreed for a while on the Peppa thing, but struggle to find other stuff that my monkey wants to watch! These are some great suggestions, and ones that have full episodes on YouTube do make my life much easier. Thank you!

Great choices, I’m just so sad that Peg + Cat isn’t on Netflix anymore, MZ and I loved that one.

We’re actually leading more toward Ali Huda for kid’s programming now though. Some really nice shows there that aren’t specifically Islamic. Knowsy Nina has been MZ’s favourite that he can have conversations about recycling and gobal warming now. Kit and Kate is also cute.
