Check it! It’s that time of the month again, August Favourites! Every month I think to myself that I should take note of the things I come across during the month, but every month end comes around and I’m like what the hell even happened this month?!
So let’s just do this thing. Not everything is new but they’re still my favourites.
Movie: She’s All That
I’ve not watched anything new this month because I have other things to do with my time at night once The Munchkin goes to sleep. But last week, when I took a day off to recover from some pregnancy induced pains I was having I was lying in bed and watching She’s All That. Mostly to reminisce about a time when Freddie Prinze Jr was everyone’s boyfriend. I also forgot Paul Walker was in that movie. Still love it.
I’ve not really been watching for anything new because all the series only start up again at the end of September.
The pilot episode of Supergirl was okay but I really struggled to finish the second episode. But seeing as it’s now moved to the CW where the other Greg Berlanti DC superhero shows live AND they’ve cast Tyler Hoechlin as Superman and Chris Wood as Mon-El, I’m there like a bear.
The series is okay, it’s not fantastic but as usual the supporting cast is starting to grow on me (Winn and Cat are probably my faves right now) but please don’t even talk to me about how annoying Jimmy Olsen is, I could do with a whole lot less of him.
Book: Witch’s Pyre
Before Harry Potter and the Cursed Child was released, I thought it would be my book of the month for August. But we all know how that turned out.
I was pleasantly surprised when Witch’s Pyre was released on the 25th of August instead of in September like I was expecting it to.
This is the final book in the trilogy and it’s a great ending to an amazing story. The story is about magic, witches and parallel universes. All the ingredients for a captivating story. Every time a book ends, I want more.
Buy it on the Google Play Store for R115.73
Eats: Hug in a mug
I’ve always ever just bought the Nescafe Cappuccino sachets but one day The Husband came back with the hazelnut flavoured Hug in a Mug from House of Coffees and I’m officially converted.
It is 100 times now delicious! I sat there wide eyed thinking how could I ever drink the Nescafe Cappuccino again. Look, it’s not bad. I do like them but Hug in the Mug is definitely the better of the two. And it comes in so many yummy flavours.
I’ve been greedily eyeing the Toasted Marshmallow flavour.
It goes for around R52 for 10 sachets and it’s available at most grocery stores.
Beauty/Body product: Clicks Tissue Oil
The Munchkinb has a scar on his chin from the time he decided to jump off the couch and went flying face first into his little plastic table.
So I went into Clicks to get some tissue oil and there were so many brands to choose from. So I went with the cheapest because guys, to be honest, tissue oil is tissue oil.
I chose the Clicks brand with calendula, lavender and Rosemary essential oils. The first thing I noticed was how lovely it smelled. Not that usual tissue oil smell and it’s because it has all that delicious smelling essential oils added.
I use it on the The Munchkin’s face and also on my stretch mark filled belly. I don’t know if it’s reducing them but at least my skin doesn’t feel like it’s going to break.
The 125ml bottle is R74.95 and you can buy it online if you don’t lus to stand in a line at Clicks.
Kid Things: The Two Ocean’s Aquarium
Last month the Two Ocean’s Aquarium was really kind and sent us a pair of complimentary tickets to check out their new Jellyfish exhibit. The Munchkin loves the Aquarium. We took him there for his first birthday.
And we’ve been back a few times. As he gets older and understands more, the more he loves it.
The Jellyfish exhibit is a bit short but it’s so psychedelic! My favourite where the neon pink ones. The walls are mirrors so the exhibit looks larger which added to the trippiness.
They also have a new I&J Ocean Exhibit. With fish that look like there have noses. That was a fun time. There were two dudes standing next to talking about why animals have noses in relation to the fish. Hilarious!
Always a fun time.
